Many people may know Fathia Fairuza the most as an MA Candidate at Columbia University in New York, but her education online platform is also currently the talk of the town. With the motivation and passion to help marginalized high school students and improve the quality of education amongst Indonesian people, Fathia has now taken her growing organization to the next level. Keep on reading to know the latest updates!

Shape Your Life as a mediator of Indonesia’s education development

When it comes to a country’s development, Fathia shared that Indonesia wants to have competent human resources, and to do so it is necessary to look at the people’s education quality. If the people are lacking the necessary materials and insights to prepare them for competing with the global world, how are we to develop as a nation? Fathia encourages high-school students to seek more options when pursuing their next education, and this is where studying abroad comes in. Unfortunately, due to information dissemination, especially amongst less privileged areas and students, many people become unaware of existing information and various opportunities that they can have.

And yet, the challenge doesn’t stop there. Most students also don’t understand the processes that come with applying to study abroad. Preparing for IELTS, taking SAT tests, writing essays, and doing interviews in a foreign language can be very much overwhelming for many people. This is why Shape Your Life has created FREE one-on-one consultations and an intensive bootcamp. They are one of the ways to help students to achieve their dreams and goals.

Shape Your Life goes to the UN

Fathia has always been known to always go the extra mile by her peers, and this includes putting the maximum effort possible to achieve her biggest goal: working in the UN office. She proactively seeks information for new and exciting opportunities, which has recently paid off.

During United Nations Day, Fathia Fairuza had the honorable opportunity to attend a panel discussion regarding “Higher Education and Multilateralism” held by United Nations Academic Impact at the UN Headquarters.

As an advocate to advance the rights to education through Shape Your Life, especially for students who live in rural areas in Indonesia, Fathia had the chance to address questions directly to the UN officials about how the UN can include more youths and NGOs from the developing countries for future discussions and various decision-making process.

The response was insightful. In fact, the UN acknowledges this issue, and they realize that they need to change their internal system to decolonize. Hence, the UN has also recently established UN Youth, where they invite representations from all around to discuss pressing issues.

What’s next for Shape Your Life?

Even though there are still things to improve, Fathia shared that we must not overlook the progresses that the Shape Your Life team has done and achieved. Even now, she still can’t believe that she has managed to assemble a team of 40 members to help her achieve the vision and mission of the organization.

Fathia expressed that she would love for Shape Your Life to also reach out to students offline. She hopes to build partnerships with schools and allocate experienced mentors to help guide groups of students. Of course, one of the biggest goals is to collaborate with the UN and even local governments, to the point that Fathia aims to transform Shape Your Life to be a type of education consultant.

This journey will of course not be easy, but what she hopes to achieve out of her master’s degree is seeing Shape Your Life continuously grow and spread positive impacts across many Indonesian students.
