Turning the Tide Scholarship for International Students in South Africa

Levels: Master's Degree and PhD

Awards: Up to 400,000 ZAR (Ph.D.) and up to 105,000 ZAR (MA)

  1. All nationalities;

  2. Eligible Courses or Subjects: Masters and Ph.D. in Cultural Studies, English Literature, ESL & English, Psychology, Music;

  3. Applicants must achieve a minimum of 75% of their previous degree;

  4. Applicants are expected to provide examples of their writing with their application: MA thesis for Ph.D. applicants Honors research essay for MA applicants published academic articles related to your application;

  5. At the date of application, applicants must not be over 30 years of age to apply for a Masters's scholarship and not over 35 years of age to apply for a Ph.D. scholarship;

  6. Students are not required to be registered or have a supervisor. However, they must inform themselves regarding the availability of supervisors in their particular research area prior to submitting an application.

Eligibility

  1. Motivation letter ( max. 600 words);

  2. Preliminary research proposal, not to exceed 1000 words, outlining the unique contribution that the applicant's research will make to the existing knowledge in the particular field of study, the problem statement, the methodology/theoretical framework/philosophical underpinnings you wish to draw upon and the feasibility of the applicant's study;

  3. Certified copy of the complete academic transcript

  4. A certified copy of an Honors certificate or MA degree - or its equivalent (if you have completed qualifications but have not been awarded a certificate, official proof from the relevant institution that the degree will be awarded before March 2021);

  5. Passport.
